WILLIAM CAREY UNIV - ACT 15-19 : Deadline: April 1st - William Carey Univ in Hattiesburg, Mississippi has created a new scholarship opportunity for students with ACT scores in the 15-19 point range. FEMALES MAJORING IN EDUCATION: Deadline: March 1 - Competition for the scholarship is open to any high school senior female planning to attend an accredited four-year university or college in the 2009-2010 school year.  Eligible students must have a minimum high school grade point average of 3.0 and must plan to enter the field of education and attend a public or private high school in Robertson, Sumner, Cheatham, Montgomery or Davidson.counties. TSU STUDENTS MAJORING IN SCIENCE, ENGINEERING, OR AGRICULTURE: Deadline: March 15 - The National Science Foundation will provided 24 college scholarships to high school seniors that major in science, engineering or agriculture (including pre-veterinary majors) at Tennessee State University.   This opportunity is open to female students of all ethnicity, and male students of African American or Hispanic descent.  Visit www.tnstate.edu/hbcu_up to apply.

AFRICAN AMERICAN MALES & FEMALES: Deadline: March 1st - NAACP ACADEMIC/CULTURAL OLYMPICS - The Nashville Branch NAACP is sponsoring the Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics program, which is a mjor youth initiative of the National NAACP. FIRE SAFETY ESSAY CONTEST : Deadline: April 1st - 10 winners - $2,000 award for each winner!

Scholarships Available from the American Fire Sprinkler Association
The American Fire Sprinkler Association (AFSA) will award ten $2,000 scholarships during their annual National Scholarship Contest. To apply, students read a short essay about sprinklers and fire safety at the AFSA   website: http://www.afsascholarship.org/ . After finishing, they complete a 10-question quiz on what they just read. Each correct answer gives the student a chance at winning of ten $2,000 scholarship (maximum 10 changes per entrant).

TSAC BULLETIN & SCHOLARSHIP INFO: Deadlines: various-see below - The 2009-2010 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is now available for completion at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov . Any student planning to receive the TN HOPE scholarship must complete the application by SEPTEMBER 1, 2009.

Beyond the HOPE scholarship, below are several other TSAC administered programs with approaching deadlines.

TENNESSEE STUDENT ASSISTANCE AWARD: Eligibility is based on financial need determined by FAFSA completion. Priority is given to students who have submitted a FAFSA prior to MARCH 1, 2009.

NED MCWHERTER SCHOLARS PROGRAM: Eligible students will have a minimum 3.5 unweighted grade point average AND a minimum 29 ACT/1280 SAT. Applications can be completed atwww.tn.gov/collegepays.Applications for this scholarship, an official transcript through the 7th semester, and an official ACT/SAT score must be received by TSAC no later than FEBRUARY 15, 2009.

ROBERT C. BYRD HONORS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: Eligible students will have a minimum 3.5 unweighted grade point average OR a minimum 24 ACT/1090 SAT AND a minimum 3.0 unweighted grade point average. Applications can be completed atwww.tn.gov/collegepays. Applications for this scholarship must be received by TSAC no later than MARCH 1, 2009.

MINORITY TEACHING FELLOWS PROGRAM (Loan Forgiveness Program): Eligible high school students must be a minority with a minimum 2.75 grade point average AND a minimum 18 ACT/860 SAT. Continuing college students must achieve a cumulative 2.5 grade point average or above. Applications can be completed at www.tn.gov/collegepays. Applications for this program must be received by TSAC no later than APRIL 15, 2009. This program does have an employment obligation.

DEPENDENT CHILDREN SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: Eligible students will be a dependent child of a law enforcement officer, fireman or emergency medical technician who was killed in the line of duty or permanently disabled in the line of duty while employed in Tennessee. Applications can be completed at www.tn.gov/collegepays. Applications, required documentation, and a completed FAFSA must be received by TSAC no later than JULY 15, 2009.
